My mission for Ren’s House is to provide a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment for preschool age children. My goal is to instill a love of learning as I help children develop skills in the social/emotional, language, cognitive skills, and physical domains, which in turn provides the foundation for academic achievement. This foundation not only ensures a successful transition to kindergarten, but is an important indicator of later school achievement.
Children are natural born learners and are curious about the world around them. Children learn through their experiences (play) with their environment and interactions with their peers and adults.
My role as a teacher is to create a safe, exciting learning environment, which promotes exploration using developmentally appropriate activities and materials. During their explorations, I act as a facilitator of their play and help to scaffold their current knowledge. I facilitate their growth by asking open-ended questions, providing role modeling of new skills, and providing encouragement of their efforts and ideas.
I provide a developmentally appropriate curriculum using the Foundation Blocks for Early Learning and the Milestones of Child Development as guidelines. I provide a consistent schedule, which includes a balance of child-directed and teacher-directed activities in individual, small group, and large group settings. The curriculum is also enriched by field trips and child friendly themes.
